Class Description
Preparing for the First Six Weeks Postpartum with a Midwife in San Francisco: Prepare for the physical and emotional aspects of postpartum recovery and healing with a deeper understanding of what your body and mind may experience in the fourth trimester. Led by a midwife, this class offers a supportive space to learn what to expect from vaginal and cesarean birth recovery, build your circle of support, and reflect on the emotional shifts of new parenthood — so you can feel more at ease as you transition into postpartum. You'll leave with practical tools and a midwife's perspective on healing in the first six weeks after birth, so you can approach this season with more confidence, clarity, and care for yourself.
Who this is for: Mothers/Birthing Person & Partner/Support person [Couples class] **Recommended to take 28-38 weeks gestation (third trimester)

about the Facilitator
El Tarver
El is a licensed midwife with over 15 years of experience attending births and supporting perinatal health. She graduated from the National Midwifery Institute in 2018, and has worked in both birth center and home birth settings, supporting hundreds of families as a midwife. Prior to attending midwifery school, El worked as a full spectrum doula and was on the leadership of the Doula Project, a volunteer organization providing abortion support in clinics and hospitals. El has trained medical students, residents, and nurses in trauma-informed gynecological care at UCSF, Stanford, NYU, Rutgers, and other academic medical institutions. Currently, El’s practice focuses on holistic fertility care. She also provides in-home postpartum midwifery care for families recovering from a hospital birth who are looking for a more supported transition into parenthood. For El, the magic and medicine of midwifery is held in the relationship, and she loves witnessing her clients transform through pregnancy and parenthood.
